The K Fireworks Comedy Hour

This is a true story; names have been changed to protect the innocent. None of this is embellished. I promise.

Truly True

The day was July 4th 2015 and it was pouring down rain on our little east Texas town. Two of my roommates (Alice and Tim) and I were planning on meeting another one of our Roommates (Petey) at an Indian Reservation for a pow-wow and fireworks display. He traveled there earlier in the day so that he wouldn’t miss any of the stereotypical Native American spectacle. So knowing that we’ve already missed the dances, and knowing that it’s pouring rain and the drive would take an hour, we decide to change our plans to something a little less wet, far, and racist.

Opinion: Jurassic World’s major fault

There have been a lot of really cool movie trailers coming out recently. To name a few: The awesome new Star Wars trailer with Chewbacca, the Antman trailer with the hilarious train moment, and the Jurassic World trailer that has some people literally shitting their pants with glee. I liked all of them… but I think Jurassic World missed something obvious.

They should have put feathers on their new super dino.

Opinion: Jeopardy’s 1 Dollar Bastards

I hate the people on the TV Game Show Jeopardy who bid just enough to beat their opponent by 1 dollar. It’s like sitting across the table from a stranger at a restaurant where you’re both being served an 8 course meal. Everything looks good, both of you are smiling, then right before your seatmate takes a bite, you slap the lobster off the table and stamp on it. Your reward for this tasteless act? A single M&M for dessert. I hope it tastes like ashes.

Everything beyond this point is just me raging at the television and at the players who have no strategy, seriously… I have a problem! Listen to this song while you read the rest of the article, it’ll put you in my headspace.

Video Game Versions of Popular Board Games

I’ve wanted to talk about video games on the Chronicle for quite a while. I spend a lot of time playing them, definitely more than I spend playing board games. Why do I play more video games than board games you ask? Well, video games for me are a way of spending time with and bonding with people that I don’t (or can’t) see as often as I’d like. While board games are the same thing, but it has that additional element (and NECESSITY – which is the hard part) of face-to-face interaction that lets you play off of each other in addition to playing with each other. Given a choice between playing Board Games or Video Games with the same people, I’d choose board games every time, but that’s simply not an option for most people. Anyway. I’m not claiming to be an expert on what I’m going to talk about today, but I’ve played more games (both board and video) than the majority of people I know. I feel that qualifies me to express my feelings on the not always perfect transference of Board Games into the Video Game world.
